MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) is a system of webbing that lets you attach, remove, and rearrange pouches on a compatible platform. It’s the building-block approach to gear organization.

How MOLLE Works
MOLLE webbing consists of rows of heavy-duty nylon stitched to a backing material. Pouches have straps on the back that weave through the webbing and lock in place with snaps or clips. This creates a secure, rattle-free attachment.
Common MOLLE Platforms
- Tactical backpacks — External MOLLE panels for expanding capacity
- Plate carriers and vests — Front, side, and back panels
- Belts — MOLLE-compatible battle belts and duty belts
- Vehicle panels — Seat back organizers with MOLLE webbing

Essential Pouch Types
Medical/IFAK Pouch
Keep first aid supplies accessible and organized. Red or marked pouches help others find your medical gear if you’re incapacitated. Tear-away designs allow quick access.
Admin Pouch
Flat pouches for documents, maps, notebooks, and small electronics. Usually features internal organization with elastic loops and zippered compartments.
Utility Pouch
General-purpose pouches in various sizes. Use for tools, snacks, batteries, or any gear that needs a dedicated home. The most versatile addition to any MOLLE setup.
Dump Pouch
Collapsible pouch that opens for quick storage of loose items. Roll it up when not in use, deploy it when you need to stash items quickly.
Organization Principles
- Most-used items at the front and accessible with either hand
- Heavy items close to your body and low on the platform
- Medical gear in a consistent, known location
- Don’t overload — empty MOLLE space is fine
